EVERY DAY COUNTS

Being sick steals your quality of life: you have to put up with the disruption of plans, the stress and worry, the wasted time, the pain and suffering and the medical appointments. It doesn't just affect one life - patients, families and caregivers are all affected.

The Hospice Society's EVERY DAY COUNTS program is geared to adding quality to life one person at a time. In the face of serious illness, we help people live well. We want people to find their best way forward with the confidence and ease to live life even though they are sick.

"Best practices in palliative care focus on providing support long before someone is admitted to the hospice. Support in the community with education, relaxation and counselling for patients, their families and caregivers can boost quality of life and help make every day count."

The Bill Field Community Fund

Named after a long-time champion of hospice palliative patients, the “Bill Fund” provides immediate financial support for palliative patients and families in need. Grants are given to meet the often unexpected costs that arise during palliative care and are not covered by provincial health care.

"This time has been difficult for me but knowing that I have the support of people like you certainly helps. Please know that I won't forget your kind gesture. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!"

Community Outreach and Education

The NS Hospice Society sponsors the annual Honour A Life community memorial, offers regular education events for the community and we’re available to make presentations to any religious, community or service group on the North Shore.

Our website provides 24 hour access to news, information and an Advice feature written by a local palliative care physician.

"The seminar on grief during the holidays helped so much. Learning more and being able to share was a relief. Thank you.”
