About the NS Hospice

North Shore Hospice Operations

The North Shore Hospice is funded and operated by Vancouver Coastal Health.  Although other hospices in the Lower Mainland are operated by local hospice societies, the North Shore Hospice is funded and managed through our provincial Health Authority.

Vancouver Coastal Health provides the provincially mandated palliative and hospice care for all patients in the North Shore Palliative and Supportive Care Program whether they are in the Hospice, Lions Gate Hospital or in the community.  For information about VCH palliative care visit www.coastalpalliativecare.ca

The North Shore Hospice Society funds additional patient programs and services to complement and extend VCH’s palliative and hospice care on the North Shore.

Financial Support for the Hospice and Palliative Care

The North Shore Hospice was built and opened in 2010 with capital raised from our local communities.  The North Shore Hospice Society (previously the Lions Gate Hospice Society), the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, and Family Services of the North Shore were partners in a large capital campaign that raised funds to build and furnish the Hospice. 

The North Shore Hospice Society contributed $500,000 to the capital campaign.  This was the third largest individual donation and the Multi-Purpose Room in the Hospice is named after the Society in memory of Werner Zimmerman.

Driving North on Lonsdale: Turn right at 13th Street. Pass Lions Gate Hospital on your left. Turn left at Ridgeway Avenue. At the round-about take the 3rd exit onto E. 14th Street. The Hospice is on the South side at the end of this cul-de-sac. There is limited street parking on 14th Street.

Driving South on Lonsdale (from the Upper Levels Highway): Take Exit 18 to Lonsdale Avenue South. Proceed on Lonsdale Avenue South. Turn left at 15th Street. Pass Lions Gate Hospital on your left. Turn left at Ridgeway Avenue. At the round-about take the 3rd exit onto E. 14th Street. The Hospice is on the South side at the end of this cul-de-sac. There is limited street parking on 14th Street

Hospice Parking Lot: There is a paid parking lot at the rear of the Hospice. The entrance to the parking lot is off 15th Street immediately east of St. Andrews Avenue. There is a blue sign for the North Shore Hospice - parking and deliveries.
